Letter from the Founder
In 2007, my husband and I began our foster to adopt journey with our daughter – it was a moment that changed everything. As I shared about foster care with those around me, I realized that even as a third generation foster and adoptive mom, I had only scratched the surface of understanding the realities children in foster care face.
As I looked deeper, I encountered sobering truths – far too many youth age out of the system into homelessness, incarceration, exploitation, or trafficking. These are not just statistics, they are stories still being written.
Moved to respond, I set out to create a different kind of non profit; one that would not only provide tangible needs, but would passionately seek to restore dignity, healing, and a sense of childhood magic into the lives of the children whose stories have been impacted by foster care.
In December 2018, after years of advocating, I officially launched the Wild & Whimsy Foundation with a single initiative. Today, the Wild & Whimsy Foundation encompasses several initiatives and mobilizes a passionate, multifaceted coalition, called the Brave Hearts Society – together, we are committed to creating a lasting legacy of change within the foster care system.
